Wegovy results, month by month
STEP 1 recorded an average loss of about 15% of body weight over 68 weeks. STEP UP reached about 20.7% at the higher dose. Here is how that unfolds in real months.
Month 1: the quiet month
On 0.25 mg, expect appetite shifts more than scale shifts, typically 2 to 3% of body weight. The starter dose exists to build tolerance, and judging Wegovy by month one is the most common mistake new patients make.
Months 2 to 3: finding the rhythm
Through 0.5 mg and 1 mg, steady weekly loss of 0.5 to 1 kg becomes typical. This is when eating patterns reshape themselves: smaller portions feel natural rather than forced. Defend your muscle now with the protein guide.
Months 4 to 6: the steep middle
Reaching 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, most responders pass 8 to 10% of starting weight. Plateaus arrive for almost everyone at some point here, brief, normal, and covered in the plateau guide.
Months 7 to 12: consolidating
In STEP 1, the 2.4 mg arm averaged about 15% loss at week 68. Roughly a third of participants lost 20% or more. The SELECT trial added a striking finding beyond weight: a 20% reduction in major cardiovascular events in people with existing heart disease.
Next comes the phase that decides everything: maintenance.
Why results vary
Genetics, sleep, protein, movement, stress and other medicines all move the number. The fairest expectation for someone who stays the course: 10 to 15% over a year, sometimes more. Your check-ins track your curve against this range so adjustments happen early, not after months of frustration.
The STEP 1 curve, simplified
Average body weight change over 68 weeks in STEP 1 (semaglutide 2.4 mg, with diet and activity support).
Weeks of treatment: share of total loss. The curve flattens after month 12 as your body settles at its new weight.
