Wegovy doses: the 0.25 mg to 7.2 mg schedule
Five standard steps plus one high dose, one rule: move up only when the current dose is tolerated and progress has slowed.
Each dose, in detail
| Dose | Earliest start | What to expect | Price per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | Week 1 | Adjustment month. Appetite dips. Scale movement modest. | £69 |
| 0.5 mg | Week 5 | Clearer appetite control. Steady weekly loss often begins. | £89 |
| 1 mg | Week 9 | A common long-term dose when loss and comfort balance well. | £99 |
| 1.7 mg | Week 13 | Used when 1 mg is tolerated but progress has stalled for weeks. | £119 |
| 2.4 mg | Week 17 | The licensed maintenance dose. STEP 1 averaged about 15% loss. | £139 |
| 7.2 mg | Selected patients | Three 2.4 mg injections weekly. STEP UP averaged about 20.7% loss with more gut side effects. | £199 |
When to move up, and when to hold
At each monthly check-in your prescriber weighs tolerance, progress and your own preference. Holding at 1 mg for months because life feels good is a strategy, not a stall. The schedule is a ladder you climb at your own pace, never above one step every 4 weeks.
About the 7.2 mg dose
The 7.2 mg regimen is taken as three 2.4 mg injections on the same day each week, and is reserved for people who tolerated 2.4 mg well but need more effect. STEP UP recorded average loss of about 20.7%, with noticeably higher rates of nausea and some tingling (dysesthesia). It is a considered step, not a default.
Missed dose rules
Take a missed dose within 5 days, then resume your usual day. Beyond 5 days, skip it. If more than two weeks pass, message your prescriber before restarting, tolerance fades and you may restart lower. Every scenario is covered in the missed dose guide.
